So what have I been doing?
Well, I’ve been back at work, and when at home I’ve been spending more time reading that webforum I’ve been on for years. Normally I try not to sit on the internet all night, but it was announced a fair while ago that it was due to close, and at 10pm on Monday it’s time was up.
I’m in two minds about this- it’s somewhere I’ve never been able to “quit” even though I probably should have done given that I outgrew it quite a while ago. But I grew up on there, starting in my teens, and using it on and off all the way through uni, and out the other side to where I am now.
If it wasn’t for that forum I would never have met Lee, and I had some good times with people on there. It’s a bit odd that it just isn’t there anymore.
But I have to grow up sometime, and I can’t waste my life on that kind of thing anymore. I need to concentrate on:
-
Finding a new job (preferably, some kind of “career path”
Eating well and exercising
Playing guitar
Reading
Writing
Keeping up with the housework
Leaning another language
Mostly this week I’ve been playing guitar, and I’m getting better but I’ve bloody worn my fingers right out.
What I haven’t been doing is reading. I don’t know why but I’m stuck on page 193 of Divisadero and can’t quite bring myself to read the rest of it but, by my own rules, can’t move on either. It’s not impressing me so far- I expected a little more from it. I’m hoping that all the threads will pull together at the end, because at the moment it’s reading a little over-sentimentalised.
I have thrown the towel in on Tao Lin. My urge to befriend him was a flash in the pan, a moment of madness. As soon as I tried to imagine any kind of friendship there I realised it was madness. I promise to be more sane in the future.
I took loads of photos when in Dorset on my phone and camera to stick up here but I hadn’t got round to it yet, so here’s some from my phone.
